Our work

Education For All is starting to build and run girls’ boarding houses near the colleges of secondary education allowing some girls from disadvantaged rural families to continue their education beyond primary level that they have achieved in their local village. The first of these will be built at Asni 45km from Marrakech in the High Atlas Mountains.

8 Girls started their college education in September 2007. 2 orphaned girls were added soon after making a total of 10 girls.

The new boarding house

The new boarding house has been designed to take 8 girls from each of the 3 years that girls go to college education in Morocco…so we have the 8 which turned to 10 who started in September 2007, a further 8 will join in September 2008 and again in 2009 making 24 girls in all. The years will then just continue.

The boarding house has been designed to provide very solid and appropriate living accommodation for these girls. The girls will be housed in dormitories of 4 with 2 bunk beds in each room. The building is approximately 400 square metres and the cost to build has been budgeted at 400m2 x 2100DH = 840,000DH at 11DH per euro this is approximately 77,000 euros. Our running costs are estimated to be circa 1,000 euros per girl per year. This will provide the living accommodation and meals and the necessary school materials and some clothing.

When this boarding house at Asni is sufficiently well funded the plans are to building similar ones in other rural areas.
